Installing a home EV charger is one of the smartest investments you can make as an electric vehicle owner. It charges your car up to 7 times faster than a standard plug, lets you take advantage of overnight off-peak electricity rates, and adds value to your home.
Home charger vs standard plug — the difference
- 3-pin plug (2.3kW) — slow, not designed for regular EV charging, can cause wiring issues
- Dedicated home charger (7kW) — safe, fast, smart — the recommended option for all EV owners
Popular home charger brands we install
- Zappi — best for homes with solar panels, smart energy management
- Ohme — smart scheduling, integrates with energy tariffs
- Andersen A2 — premium design, discreet installation
- Pod Point — reliable, widely used, app-controlled
What does installation involve?
Our electrician will assess your existing consumer unit, run a dedicated circuit to the charger location, mount and connect the unit, configure the app and smart features, and issue the full electrical certification. Most installations take 2–4 hours.
Do I need a qualified electrician?
Yes. EV charger installation is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations and must be carried out by a qualified, registered electrician. Energy North is OZEV-approved and City&Guilds certified — your installation will be fully certified and compliant.
